sword fight

Just enjoyed the first night of Historia Capenatum. A bit like a village fete with an Italian twist (guessing the weight of the prosciutto etc.) until night fell – then much more drama. The main event involved various teams from around Capena shoving a giant wooden screen on rails with pikes from opposite sides until one pushed the other back over their line. Like a tug of war, but pushing.

Our team from the Rocca, all familiar faces from around the square, were unbeatable – pushing back the opposition time and time again.

In the intervals we had spectacular sword fights lit by red flares and dinner for € 12 in the Cesata. Various stalls were set up around the Rocca to demonstrate mediaeval crafts and trades. My favourite was definitely a small boy demonstrating instruments of torture with great relish…
